From lining up for Healthy Body Routine, to singing our class song, students have gone from learning sounds of the alphabet to naming the letters and sounds with significant confidence. So much so that there has been a marked improvement in spelling and sight word recognition. Our AEWs Christine, Winsome, Caroline and Yvonne have been extremely valuable and have truly helped in seeing that the students make very good progress when in class. Our class uses games every morning to master sounds and sight words. Through Accelerated literacy, many students are beginning to see sound and letter relationships. It is really exciting to see students use their knowledge of the alphabet as a cue to recognising new words and familiar ones. In Numeracy, students have improved their counting skills and are also beginning to see how bigger numbers are made of smaller ones such as in subitising. Some students can recognise groups without counting them! Painting has been a wonderful way in which students have engaged. Our class recently had an open day and we are hoping to have many more in the future. It is always exciting to have new students come and join us. Of course, we also love to see all Docker River students coming to school every day. Sonja Blaskovic, Junior Primary O ur classroom is a friendly and welcoming place. This year we have learned so much about writing, reading, art, maths, health, music and sport. We have welcomed many people into our classroom, from Vanessa helping us with health and wellbeing, Regina showing us first aid, Emma fixing our trachoma, Gregory giving Ray a break etc. We were visited by the girls from Santa Sabina who helped us with our reading, we played games and did drawing and crafts. We have been lucky this year to have many AEWs working in the classroom. We are thankful for all the help from Miriam, Rita, Roxanne, Gabrielle, Vivienne,Virginia and many others who have showed us how to count, write, spell and read. Samuel has brought his High School students to visit. One day Denice practiced being a teacher, which was fun. Sonya’s class come to draw and colour with us and we play softball and basketball together. As well as our normal lessons we find time for bush trips, Lego, lots of painting and iPads. Coco, Dan, Erin, Terry, Chris, Matilda, Ted and Gail sometimes visit to teach and help us in class and we are lucky to have Lily and Barbara to make us great food in the new kitchen.
